Autobiographical Profile My name is Donna Christian, I am a mother of 2 (daughter 29, and son 23), and a grad-mother of two wonderful boys ages 5 and 4.I am currently a student at Bowie State University in my senior year, pursuing an under graduate degree in Early Childhood and Special Education.
Growing up as a child I knew that I wanted to teach children, but I didn’t know in what capacity until I opened my home to my daughter for her first sleep over and discovered Early Childhood Education.I knew then that I wanted to be a teacher and teach young children.A friend later, introduced me to the world of childcare and it was then that I realized I had found my niche. That was almost 30 years ago and since then I have attended regular workshops and training and am a member of several associations including the Maryland State Family Childcare Association, the Maryland Committee for Children and the National Association for Childcare Resources and Referral Agencies, The Maryland State Teacher Association-NEA, and The National Education Association.
I will use my knowledge to offer stimulating, developmental activities when the children are ready for them. They include music and movements, outdoor play, practical life and sensory activities, arts and crafts, pre-reading and pre-math skills, quiet time and sharing times, manipulative, and lots of laughter.
I strive to meet the child physical, intellectual, social and emotional needs.I feel children learn best in a loving, organized, natural learning environment.Children in my care will learn something new every day by being a part of our extended family.Children will learn important values such as patience, sharing, responsibility, compassion for self and others, communication, and teamwork. They will also learn the basics of education such as recognizing his/her alphabet, numbers, colors, shapes, and how to paint, play with dough, cut with scissors, color with crayon, and the beginning stages of reading.Children will always be encouraged to use their imagination while creating artwork, manipulating their own ideas and thoughts on paper, or other concrete materials.
